Research: Historical astronomical practice

The Archenhold Observatory makes substantial contributions to the research of the history of astronomy. The current main research focus is the development and understanding of historical astronomical practice.
In contrast to the past scientific and historical research, the observation and measurement now stands in the foreground.
Main focus of research:
- inventory of astronomical instruments in Germany’s collection
- reconstruction of astronomical instruments and observation practice
- reconstruction of astronomical buildings and their surrounding fields
- observation of the Bailey's Beads phenomenon
- counting telescope and measured data collection

The Archenhold Observatory enables research with the following resources:
- library with 30,000 volumes, documentation of the popularisation of astronomy since the late 19th century. Contact: Mr Fürst

- online bibliography of astronomy until 1700 (in progress).
Series of publications:
The Archenhold Observatory publishes a series of publications in German on the history of astronomy, which is called the "Beiträge zur Astronomiegeschichte".
This series of books addresses both the astronomy-historically interested public and the experienced specialised scientists.
