Numbers and mathematics
What shape must the pool table have for the ball to fall into the pocket? © Barbara Sigge
The world is full of mathematics …
The trajectory of a pool ball on a pool table, the shape of a falling snowflake and the design of a stable bridge are all things that have a lot to do with mathematics.
We encounter mathematics everywhere. It helps us to describe patterns, structures and relationships in our world and in the universe. The modern natural sciences and many other disciplines would be inconceivable without mathematics. And behind some optical illusions there is more maths than you might think.
… and full of numbers
Numbers are everywhere too. In art, in the natural world and in everyday life. Numbers make large parts of our world calculable.
