The Sugar Museum is a little gem in Berlin-Wedding telling the story of sugar – where it comes from, how it is made. Quite simply: everything about sugar.
Our events are for everybody, regardless of where you come from and what you already know about sugar – a commonplace substance with an extraordinary history.
What value did a slave have? How did sugar come to Europe?
The exhibition explains political, economic and social relations between Europe, Africa and America in comprehensive detail.
In 1867, the first sugar institute in the world was founded in Berlin under Carl Scheibler.
The Sugar Museum was opened on the 8th of May 1904. The initiator of the museum was Edmund Oskar von Lippmann, the doyen of the history of sciences and sugar.
