1989 – Repairs on the large refractor
Replacing of the exterior metal tube
The exterior metal pipe was partially rusted through and was gradually replaced. The new pipe was warm riveted – true to the historical model. In 1990, the last piece of pipe was installed and the telescope was once again operational. The motion mechanism is regularly demonstrated in the observatory during the guided tours.
